Youth AI Pitch Competition
Help improve the Emergency Room (ER) experience for kids!

Are you a high school or junior high student passionate about technology and looking to make a real-world impact? The Youth AI Pitch Competition 2025 is your chance to use AI and creativity to improve the Children’s Emergency Department at the IWK hospital. The event will take place on May 3, and we want YOU to be part of it!
This year’s competition challenges you to come up with innovative AI-driven solutions to enhance the ER experience for kids and their families. Whether it’s making ER visits more fun for children, improving parent communication or advancing how care is delivered, your ideas can make a difference!
Event agenda
Morning Workshop (9:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.):
- Generative AI Applications – A hands-on workshop facilitated by SMU Master of Business Analytics students. Learn about the latest AI tools and how you can use them to solve real-world problems in the healthcare industry.
Afternoon Pitch Competition (1 p.m. – 5 p.m.):
- 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.: Teams will refine their pitches with guidance from facilitators to make sure they are ready for the big moment.
- 3 p.m. – 5 p.m.: The competition begins! Eight teams will present their AI-driven ideas to a panel of judges.
Details
Who Can Join: Junior high and high school students (ages 13-18)
What you’ll submit at the competition:
- An AI concept proposal (5 slides)
- A prototype demo (like a wireframe, app mock-up or chatbot demo)
- A 2-minute pitch explaining your idea
What the judges are looking for:
- Creativity
- Practicality
- Impact on kids and parents
- Clear presentation of your idea
Bonus: Enjoy snacks, lunch and afternoon refreshments! Parents are also welcome to watch the competition and see your brilliant ideas come to life!
